Genuine North American Coyote Fur
Every ArcticFur trim is made from genuine North American coyote fur, the same material Canada Goose built its reputation on before exiting fur in 2022. This page explains why coyote specifically, where ours comes from, and how we grade it.
Why coyote fur, specifically
Coyote fur is not on winter hoods for decoration. Its guard hairs are naturally frost resistant: moisture from your breath does not freeze onto the fur the way it does on synthetic fibres, which is why serious expedition parkas have used it for decades. It is also exceptionally dense, breaking wind before it reaches your face, and its natural tone variation gives every trim a depth of colour that faux fur, printed identically strand to strand in a factory, cannot imitate.
Where our fur comes from
We source genuine coyote fur from North America, primarily Canada, through established and regulated channels. Coyote is an abundant species and is not endangered or threatened. From there, each pelt is cleaned, cut, and crafted into a finished trim by our production team to our exact specification, then inspected again to ensure the quality and grade is up to our standard before it reaches you.
Graded so you never gamble
Marketplace fur is a lottery: thin pelts, patchy density, dyed fur sold as natural. We remove the gamble by grading every trim against our standard for density, hair length, and colour consistency. Trims that fall short on fullness or tone are rejected and never sold. If anything about your fur is not right, contact us and we will find a solution, backed by a 14 day return and exchange policy.
Made for your jacket, not near it
Every trim is finished on a backing built to match your jacket, with trim colours including black, navy, light blue, green, grey, red and white, and more added regularly. Custom orders are crafted to your exact selection. Every trim also includes a flexible internal shaping wire, just like the original factory trims: bend the fur to frame the hood the way you want and it holds its shape.
Real fur vs faux: the honest comparison
Faux fur has improved, and if you prefer it, that is a legitimate choice. But it behaves differently where winter actually happens. Synthetic fibres absorb and hold moisture, frost against the face, mat with wear, and flatten permanently. Genuine coyote sheds frost, recovers its loft with a shake, and lasts many seasons with basic care. That difference is the entire reason coyote became the standard, and the reason owners notice when it is gone.
