Does Canada Goose Use Real Fur?
The short answer: not anymore. Canada Goose announced the end of fur purchasing in 2021 and stopped manufacturing with fur in 2022. By around 2025 the last fur trimmed jackets had sold through. Every Canada Goose sold new today ships without fur.
What they used before, and why
For decades, Canada Goose hoods carried genuine North American coyote fur. The choice was functional before it was aesthetic: coyote guard hairs shed frost instead of collecting it, and the dense ruff breaks wind before it reaches your face. It became the most recognisable detail of the most recognisable winter jacket in the world.
Why they stopped
The company cited its sustainability commitments after years of pressure from animal welfare campaigns. Whatever your view of the decision, the practical result for owners was the same: the signature look and function disappeared from the product, and Canada Goose offers no fur option, replacement service, or repair route for the trims it used to sell.
The detail most owners do not know
Most compatible jackets still have the hood zipper. Canada Goose kept the attachment system that fur trims connect to on popular models like the Wyndham and Langford, which means those jackets can carry a genuine fur trim today, whether the jacket never had one or its original wore flat years ago. It zips on in about a minute, no tailor, no modification. One check before ordering: on newer models, confirm your hood has the zipper strip running around its edge, since a small number of new season jackets ship without one. Owners of pre 2022 jackets often ask whether their original fur can be revived. A worn factory trim, flattened, shedding, patchy, cannot really be restored. But it can be replaced like for like, and many owners take the opportunity to go fuller than the factory ever offered.
